Subject: Chiu Sir's photo with Wilson plus other data

From: Charles Lam
Dear Man Keung and KCA friends,
Just talked to Wai Sum and got the following information items relevant to your last few emails. Others may like to confirm their accuracy.
-the photo was taken in 1996 when Wilson came back to open the Wilson trail
-re. another photo, it was taken when Hak Shun came back to HK; at that time Chiu Sir no longer lived at Kowloon City (Ka Yun may know the date of the photo)
-re. KCA assistants, Fu Koh served for a long time; then Law Kin Cheung (and his friend) served for a short time; also maybe Kwan Kam Wah and you
The following data were also recalled by Wai Sum and I, to enrich our reflection:
Chiu Sir before serving in DEA, had worked as a salesperson (selling watches) and clerical staff for Crocodile (the logo was designed by him) and as the right hand man of Pastor Lee (whom he respected) in Christian Council. He was proud of all these jobs. He was baptised as a Christian at that time (Ka Yun should know the baptism date). His Christian job location was close to that of DEA and that was why he knew the DEA people. He told me that he nearly embarked on a religious career.
Best regards,
Charles

Hi,
Can anyone recall the actual year and any details of the attached photo?
Since Wilson was no longer the governor of Hong Kong in 1996, was he coming back to Hong Kong at that time? Or was it taken in 1986?

Hi,
Can anyone recall the date of the attached photo taken at Chiu sir's home? I think it was taken in late 1970s or early 1980s when Hak Shun came back Hong Kong with his wife. During that time, we decided to visit Chiu sir and gave him a phone call but he left before our arrival.

Dear Kamching brothers and sisters,
I've just finished typing in my memorial article. It's a modification of the article written in 1997. It took me several days ( on and off ) typing in the Chinese characters. I really feel relieved after finishing it.
Please give me your comment and advice.

Kam Wah,
Thanks for your info from Wai Sum.
It's very important to include all valuable info from various sources otherwise the memorial brochure and CD could not reflect the complete image of Chiu sir. The deadline on May 11 can be viewed only as my deadline. I'll still try to produce a brochure and a Photo CD when Jim is in Sydney. But that could be regarded as drafts, since the image of which can be stored in CDs which Jim can bring back to Hong Kong for finalization and professional production.
I am still inputing Chinese characters on my article which had been written last year when Jim was in Sydney. I'll email it to all of you as soon as it is completed.
I've received 12 photos (mostly with dates!) from Stephen. The photos were scanned and processed by her daughter. I think our children might be of help in this rather technical field.

Dear Man Keung and Kamching friends,
Just talked to Waisum and got her permission to relay the following information items to you. She will tell more later as much as she can recollect.
-Chiu Sir was born in China (Sun Wui)
-he came to live in HK when he was a teenager
-he liked movies--wrote about the characters, his feelings on it; he learnt English from movies
-he liked cutting newspapers on public personalities and wrote about them
-his liked the style of Chris Patten
I also have known bits and pieces directly from Chiu Sir regarding e.g. jobs before KCA, some life philosophies. Will try to comment/add on an article (first drafted by Man Keung?) on these aspects of him. Others can also do the same to draw a richer picture.
Wai Sum has phoned some close friends of Chiu Sir to see if they would write something. She asked whether the deadline of May 15 could be extended. Regarding her own piece, she is still thinking what to write. Basically, her thoughts would be in line with Man Keung's. The main difficulty I could feel is how to put her complex thoughts in writing.
regards,
Charles

Dear Man Keung and Mark,
I was moved by the exchange of emails between you two, showing deep feeling and rich reflection. These and the looking forward thoughts, I believe, are the purposes of our individual articles; they need no uniformity, no consensus, as we have our unique characters, thoughts and developments. The looking backward and forward, exploring within and without, focusing on different aspects following our own concerns and interests, is becoming a very meaningful learning process for each of us.
Supplemented by these articles of diversity will be pieces showing facts--memorial articles, chronology, etc. which need accurate data that all of us can contribute.
Just to share my feeling,
Charles

Dear Man Keung,
I was not involved in the real conflict and I really did not know too much about the fine details of the struggle. What I know is that these are things in the past, and please treat it this way.
We all learn from our mistakes and that is why we are wiser than we were 20, 30 years ago. (of course it may not always true) I wish you and some other Kam Ching brothers/sisters do look forward and try to bring the positives out of the negative experience. In fact, the way you are doing and working on the CD/Webpage etc. is a very positive and productive way to amend what you think were the "regrets".
Wish you well and thanks again for your great effort in this project.

Kam Hung,
Thanks for your interpretation. It's sure that the way of doing things went wrong other than human weaknesses. No one was wise enough to foresee the growth and change of us would ultimately cause a conflict with the strong leadership and no one was bold enough to put forward the situation for discussion at the early stage when we boycotted the marriage party of David.
The Sun Hay group formed by some of the Kamching members also split up but it was because of the conflict between two groups. What they had done was of minimal significance as compared to Kamching.
We had a determined leader. We are well trained and got the potential. We were close enough to cooperate and be dedicated. We were warmly supported by the participants.
Yet we ended up with a process of gradual disintegration.
We had certainly missed an excellent opportunity.

Man Keung,
Thanks for your effort and I am sure all will benefit from this project, especially those who claims to be Kam Ching brothers.
Chiu Sir no doubt was a person who inspired us, during our developmental years. But do remember, we all have our lives, our destinies and goals. Growing up is important but again, learning from the growing up process, would certainly help us to build on our character, personality and knowing more about ourselves.
What went wrong? It may be somebody's deliberate or undeliberate error, but it certainly not YOUR fault, or anyone alone. I think, if I am not wrong, it just happen that we all belong to the same age group, and we just happen to become independent at the same time. Just a co-incident may be. I think at the time, Chiu Sir, or other brothers, did not think or discuss carefully about OUR (Kam Ching) future and development. It may be that fact that this idea/topic had never been brought up to us, or challenge us at the time.
Anyway, please do not feel that YOU are the one who brought damage to Kam Ching, I think myself and some others should bear part of the blame too.
Just to share with you
Regards and thanks again
Kam Hung
