Our web site has been upgraded.
Instructions have been sent to your email account xxxx
Please forward the instructions to us so that we understand the new
features.
At the mean time we could log in using the old password.
We are then at the /usr/jchim directory.
We'll have to change directory to /web which is the web directory.
Files for the web have to be put under /web.
Kam Wah may have some problem in accessing the web directory
when using the upload command of Netscape Composer. Try to
use cuteFTP instead.
I'll finalise our projects starting from the week Sept 4 so that they
are ready when Ka Kui arrived Sydney on Sept 14. Ka Kui will
leave for Melbourne on Sept 8 and will leave Sydney on Sept 24.
I'll give him the brochures to bring back to Hong Kong.
Best regards,
Man Keung

Dear Jim and Kam Wah,
I've just created a basic message board on our web site.
Go to www.kamching.com and from the left panel there is a linking to
the
message board.
Try it first, see if it works, before we tell others.

Dear Man Keung and Jim,
Thank you for the upgrading. I will ask if I don't understand the new instructions. Will read and try them later.
I use cuteFTP to upload; therefore although it starts at /usr/jchim,
I can still get back to /web. It is better to start from
the latter.
On 21st, Ka Yun told me that her article has been typed up in Chinese.
Has she sent over to you (Man Keung)
already?
regards,
Charles

Subject: kamching web site upgraded
Date: Thu, 31 Aug 2000
From: "clement chui"
Hi everybody!
The web hosting plan of Kamching has been upgraded from basic (C$5/month)
to pro (C$25/month).
The added functions include:
(1) web storage increased from 5 Mbs to 100 Mbs.
(2) email accounts increased from 20 to 100.
(3) able to run cgi scripts like message board, web counter, guest
book, questionaires etc.
(4) the use of FTP for downloading and uploading of files, up to 10
Mbs by default.
(5) able to use Frontpage for web page production.
That means now you can:
(1) create email accounts for your wife, kids and close relatives and
extend the kamching family by owning
the same kamching.com identity. You are free to choose your user name.
You have a much larger email
box (10 Mbs !) than the standard one (1 Mb).
You can also retrieve mail both from your email client eg Outlook Express
or Netscape messenger
and from the web site of www.dollarhost.com
(2) use FTP to upload or download files up to 10 Mbs or even more.
That's a better way of transferring
large files than email attachment.
(3) enjoy the added function like message board, guest book, web counter,
questionaire etc or add these
functions to your personal web site.
(4) be able to use Frontpage to create and upload files at a later
date ( when we've decided to move from
standard FTP upload to Frontpage upload).
So, what you should do now is :
(1) visit the kamching web site (www.kamching.com) to try the message
board.
You can view the message list, write your
message or reply any message.
Your message would be added to the list once
you click the "send message" button.
Please note that the date and time of the
message is those of Vancouver where it's
the location of our web server.
( I'm sorry that you can only use English for the
time being.)
(2) visit our site next week to find out more change.
(3) tell Jim, Kam Wah or me about your wish list of email accounts
and personal web sites.
(4) read through the attached instructions to set up your email client
or the use of FTP.
(You can read the instructions on how to use the cuteFTP program and
download a copy
from our web -- scroll down on the navigation panel till the end, there
should be a linking
to the page of cuteFTP.)
Enjoy your trip on the irreversible Internet Superhighway!

Dear Man Keung,
Now that the message board is working, it seems to overlap with the
function of
the bulletin board. Please advise whether I need to continue with the
uploading.
If not, please advise changeover date. Perhaps a message is needed
to inform
members of such change also.
regards,
Charles

Kam Wah,
Just received your email.
Your article will be ammended accordingly.
Could you please ring Ka Yun to tell her that I haven't received her
article. She could fax it to me and let me type it for her.
As for the bulletin board, wait for two weeks to see the response.
The message board is designed to replace the bulletin board.

From: Charles Lam
Dear Man Keung,
Just talked to Ka Yun over the phone. Her paper article has been at
Ka Lun's
place. Presumably Ka Lun keyed in Chinese for her although he did not
say so.
According to Ka Yun, there are only a few amendments remaining. She
will go to
Ka Lun's place and complete the keying in there. She should be able
to email
to you in a couple of days.
Your remarks on my article and the bulletin board are noted.
