Subject: sample brochure emailed to Wai Sum
    Date:  Mon, 19 Jun 2000
   From:  Charles Lam

Dear Man Keung and Kamching friends,

(1) I could open and view the attachment alright.

(3) I think hyperlinks/exchange website icons is a good way to promote. We need members and friends to establish such links, the more the better. DEA, both UK and HK versions, are relevant.  I am interested in knowing progress concerning the distribution/publication of Man Keung's article which Ka Kui mentioned earlier. The opportunity of getting it published by Readers Digest of course should not be missed. I look forward to hearing good news later. As for me, I will continue to share Chiu Sir's experiences with Christians and non-Christian friends on different occasions, via electronic and non-electronic communications. I often put our web address under  my signature in sending outgoing emails. I believe more and more of them will visit Kamching.com website.  I also hope that my article could be published in some Christian magazines later.

(4) Man Keung, do you recommend all members who have Kamching.com email addresses to send/receive Kamching emails through them? Currently I do not have yet the habbit of viewing clam@kamching.com emails frequently, as the address is not known by many contacts yet. I have chosen the web version (going first to dollarhost.com) for the time being, which seems working okay so far.

regards,

Charles

Jim, Kam Hung and Kam Wah,

I just received an article from Ka Lun - he asked me to correct his grammar!
Maybe you can help polish the wording or even re-write it as poetry.

Cheers,

Man Keung

Kam Wah,

(1) The sample brochure was sent this (Monday) morning via the (so-called) express mail of Australian Post.
It'll be sent to HK on Tuesday and might reach Meng Gong Uk on Thursday or Friday.
Please tell Wai Sum to pull out pages from the second folder and insert them into the first folder.
The last page should be page 34(of photos). She could write down her suggestions and ammendment
and fax it to me. All pages can be edited and new pages can be added.

(2) There is a possibility of having our article published in Reader's Digest. I hope someone will contact
Readers Digest in late July, after completing our projects. Just show them the brochure, the CD and the web
site to see if they are interested. If they do, then I'll re-write my article, incorporating Jim's and yours,
in the perspective of the historical development of outdoor activities in Hong Kong and the personal qualities
of Chiu sir.

(3) I am thinking of the possibility of writing a book of "reporting literature" on Kamching in early 70's in about
20,000 words . It depends on how much memories we can recall and how many more photos we can collect.
Better still, if I know your feelings and impression on some minute details of typical events, with the help of
old photos. It might not take too long for me to write the first draft if I get all necessary information and input
from you and other friends of Kamching. I would be very busy this year, but I might have time next year or
the year after. Just keep the option open.

(4) I find the kamching email account very useful particularly for sending emails with attachments to a large
group at the same time and for setting our own email options. You may use it as an alternative or make it the
default. In the case of Hung Cheong and Bobby, I would advice them use the kamching account.

Cheers,

Man Keung

Dear Man Keung,

After arriving in HK soil for just a few hours, It was quite a pleasant surprise to have received such a beautiful postcard from my friends  down-under.  The picture worth more than a thousand words.  It brought back sweet memories of old and make me feel at least 20 years younger but not necessarily wiser.  More importantly, it's the old fashioned Kamching hospitality and comradeship that I cherish the most.  It's my wish that I would like to attempt the Sydney harbour kayak adventure again in the near future, perhaps in more favourable circumstances.

Thanks very much

Jim

Subject: ammendment of brochure

Hi Jim,

It's good for you back to HK so that there is someone to work for the projects other than Kam Wah.
I've posted the sample brochure on Monday. It should reach Wai Sum by Thursday or Friday the latest.
Can you make arrangement with Wai Sum to have a look?
Things that should be done include:
1. Replace, delete or add photos/docs. For example:
Any photos of typical kamching events left out, particularly after we left, other than Youde Award?
Any important kamching members and friends left out in the photo pages, particularly those who
helped a lot after we left?
( I want to make sure that everyone that receive the brochure find himself included in at least one
photo so that they got a sense of belonging and achievement.)
There are no photos of East Ping Zhou in my collection.
How about the Duck's Hole in Gut O island?
Photos of night hiking are not yet included.
Photos of Cheung Sha Camping not included.
Any photos of hiking assembly venue eg in Hung Hom or Yau Ma Tei or anywhere?
Please also consider the number of photo pages to be added.
2. Amend or add descriptions for photos, eg the names of those sea caves.
Is it necessary to add the names of chiu sir's children and kamching members?
3. It might not be appropriate for Wai Sum to write, but if she wish, could she mention the life of
Chiu sir in Ki Lung St?
4. Please give a ring to Ka Yan about her article.

Cheers,

Man Keung

Dear Man Keung,

(1) I phoned just now but could not find Wai Sum. Left a voice message at her recorder though. Will contact her later.

(2) Proposal fully supported. I can go with Jim to see Readers Digest people..

(3) Very interesting and encouraging. Please elaborate more on this project. Do you mean one author plus appendices
(authored by different people) or a collection of articles. No matter what, I shall be interested to participate.

(4) Will ask you again in case I have problems in using kamching.com for my emails. Thanks.

regards,

Charles

Subject: the real world Treasure Island - kamching version
   Date: Thu, 22 Jun 2000
   From: Man Keung

Hi Kam Wah,

I am thinking of writing a book in Chinese on Kamching and Chiu sir next year or a few years later.
(1) The purpose is to publish the events of DEA and kamching in a book format, for the purchase
of the public .
(2) The nature is of "Reporting Literature", based on real life reports but presented in artistic writing.
For the sake of marketing, the book should be written as real life novel with an attractive plot
and artistic language skills.
(3) The theme is about the development of boys through adventure and joy in outdoor activities
organised by DEA and Kamching in the beautiful countryside of Hong Kong, and the respect we
show towards Chiu sir, a legend of HK in the sixties and seventies.
( The approach is something like real world Treasure Island and very different from a memorial brochure.)
(4) The book might be comprised of several chapters and around 30-50 articles of about 800 - 1,500
words each, illustrated with photos, documents and maps, totalling less than 200 pages.
(5) Everyone of us could write on a different topic or event. I could then modify and incorporate them
into the plot.

It's a bit early to talk about details of the plan. But we can keep it as an open option and think about
it after completing the present projects.

Man Keung
